The
Spring Glen Garden Club will be holding its October meeting on Monday October
21, 2019 at 11:45 am at Lockwood Cottage, 890 Evergreen Ave. Bring your own
lunch, dessert and beverage will be provided. After a short business meeting the
speaker will begin at 1 pm. The speaker
will be Deirdra Wallin, her subject will be “Benefits of Horticulture”. Deirdra is a Registered Horticultural
Therapist, Advanced Master Gardener, Master Composter and Master Naturalist
with a background in social services and volunteer management. Owns and operates, The Personal Gardener, a
business that specializes in the development and maintenance of the home garden
and has grown to providing educational, social and therapeutic programming for
individuals and groups. Program
coordinator at The Connecticut Audubon Society, Deer Pond Farm in Sherman,
Connecticut.
Laurie
Masciandro at the September meeting gave a wonderful lecture on the Historic
Gardens of CT. The gardens are nice
places to visit, many designed or planned by women. Beatrix Farrand and
Gertrude Jekyll work is featured in some of these gardens. Please visit the
gardens, a few are: Osborne Homestead Museum and Kellogg Environmental Center,
Derby, Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme and Harkness Memorial State Park,
Waterford.
